The Wonder of God

We have heard it said on many occasions that David was a man after God’s own heart.  Psalm 139 is a prayer of one who has had an intimate knowledge of and experience with God.

-Writer: David
-Has led a wonderful life
-Probably when he desired to build the temple
-Temple would be built by David’s son Solomon

David describes his humble walk with God and shares his knowledge of the Lord God attained from a life of experiences.

There are 4 distinct ways to understand The Wonder of God:

Number 1 The Wonder of God’s Knowledge verses 1-6
Number 2 The Wonder of God’s Presence verses 7-12
Number 3 The Wonder of God’s Power verses 13-18
Number 4 The Wonder of God’s Judgment verses 19-24

 

1) The Wonder of God’s Knowledge

God’s knowledge is Omniscient: this means that God knows all

Read verses 1-6

2) The Wonder of God’s Presence

God’s presence is Omnipresent: this means that God is everywhere at all times

Read verses 7-12

The atheist wrote on the chalkboard: “GOD IS NOWHERE”.

But a Christian used the eraser and made a significant change, so that it read: “GOD IS NOW HERE”

3) The Wonder of God’s Power

God’s power is omnipotent: He is all-powerful

Read verses 13-18

4) The Wonder of God’s Judgment

God’s judgment is always consistent and He never varies in His judgment

Read verses 19-24

We are all sinners by nature and by choice.
“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”
Romans 3:23

We cannot save ourselves.
“Not of works, lest any man should boast.”
Ephesians 2:9

We deserve death and hell.
“For the wages of sin is death.”
Romans 6:23a

God is holy and just and must punish sin, yet he loves us and has provided forgiveness for our sins.
Jesus said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
John 14:6

Jesus died for us on the cross.
“For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that
He might bring us to God.”
I Peter 3:18
